Synopsis :

The skills, talent and resources available in Thailand have attracted film-makers to shoot their films here, even when the story is not set in Thailand. In 'Air America' our two heroes, Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr. are pilots flying private missions in Laos during the Vietnam War. It's a risky and dangerous job, but if they were too serious about it, they'd go crazy. So the two pilots perform their duties as light-hearted mavericks, flouting the rules and disrespecting authority.

Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr. are both big stars now, but 'Air America' was one of the first big budget studio films that made Downey famous.

It was filmed largely around Mae Hong Son province, and the production was supported by the Thai military, providing 26 aircraft - another great example of the support and hospitality that Thailand has offered film-makers and that has made Thailand a hub of film production in Asia.

Recommendation :

Exciting air sequences, great comedy between the two stars, a serious message about greed and war, and a touching ending - and of course Gibson and Downey. What more could you want?
